Additional programs and services are available for individuals who meet certain eligibility requirements.

Unemployment Insurance:  The Texas Workforce Commission handles all unemployment insurance claims by telephone. Through this service, you can apply for unemployment insurance and get answers to your unemployment insurance questions. In the San Antonio area you can call 210/258-6600 (local) or Toll Free 1-800-939-6631, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Telecommunication devices for the deaf (TDD) users can communicate with TWC offices by using Relay Texas. Those numbers are 1-800-735-2989 (TDD) or 1-800-735-2988 (Voice).

Child Care Delivery System (CCDS): Provides eligible parents with access to dependable quality childcare. The program allows families the flexibility to select childcare providers and access multiple funding sources through a simple process. More information...

WorkSource Investment Act (WIA) Programs:

  1. Dislocated Workers: Offers employment and training services to eligible workers who have lost their jobs in mass layoffs or plant closing or who have been laid off and are unlikely to return to their jobs.

  2. Rapid Response: When Workforce Solutions Alamo obtains information about a major layoff, we respond with on-site services to assist workers facing job loss with early intervention assistance designed to help transition them to their next employment as soon as possible.

  3. Adults (ages 18+): Intensive (e.g. skill assessment, counseling, case management), education/training and supportive services to enable eligible individuals to obtain and retain productive employment.

  4. Youth (ages 14-21): A variety of services designed to acquaint and prepare eligible youth for the world of work. Activities include pre-employment skills training, career exploration, leadership skills, work experience, internships, occupational training and more.

Choices:  Provides employment and training services to applicants and former recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash assistance. Choices is operates under a Work First philosophy. The program is designed to enable individuals to obtain and retain employment and upgrade skills in order to achieve self-sufficiency. Services include counseling, job readiness training, support services, individual case management, education and training services, and intensive work search.

Food Stamp Employment and Training (FSE&T) Program:  Specialized assistance for Food Stamp recipients to move them toward becoming employed and self-sufficient. Includes participation in work programs and education/training activities for 18-50 year old able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWSs).

Re-Integration of Offenders (RIO):  Job placement, counseling, case management as well as education and vocational services to persons on parole, enabling them to obtain suitable employment and reenter society in a productive capacity.

Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA): TAA is a program for dislocated workers who have lost their job due to it being relocated outside of the United States. Educational assistance, relocation assistance, supportive services and job search services are potentially available to TAA affected workers.”
