AccuMolecular Diagnostics is a Bio Medical Diagnostics company that was interested in the Workforce Solutions Alamo Subsidized Employment Program. The SE program is full or part-time employment in the private of non-profit sector where a portion of the individuals wages are subsidized or short-term employment that allows the individual to learn the skills necessary to transition into unsubsidized employment. AccuMolecular offered an opportunity for a categorical program participant to enter the bio-medical field and hired a single mother of three under the terms of SE. This customer is receiving valuable training and experience in a demand industry while the employer is able to receive the benefit of an employee at a reduced salary rate.

Avanzar Interior Technologies, Inc.- Toyota Tier One On Site Supplier
Employee Tax Credits benefit businesses of all sizes each year. Empowerment Zone Tax Credits contribute greatly to employers, but most importantly to jobseekers living in EZ boundaries, who are characterized with a number of employment barriers—limited skills, low-income and minority. To meet both their needs, Workforce Solutions Alamo is working with Avanzar Interior Technologies, Ltd., a Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas Tier-One Supplier, to hire 25% of their projected workforce from designated area Empowerment Zones. The objective is to generate an applicant pool of enough Empowerment Zone residents sufficient enough to meet Avanzar’s hiring needs.

In the project early stages, strategies to address information dissemination and the prescribing/implementing of support and training services are being addressed. To effectively “spread the word” about Avanzar hiring efforts and goals in the EZ community, access point to components of the information will include WorkInTexas.com, Workforce Solutions Alamo Career Centers, community based organizations, secondary schools, adult education facilities, colleges and universities, and the City of San Antonio. To ensure the sufficient applicant pool of EZ residents, an intensive “grass roots” outreach element will be coupled with the above. A series of “Outreach Events” will promote employment opportunities and assist candidates in the application process. Timelines are now in place to begin the process.

C.H. Guenther & Son was awarded the Employer Award of Excellence by the Texas Workforce Commission, recognizing employers that are actively involved with their local workforce board and have made a positive impact on employers, workers and the community. Seeing a need for training to maintain quality, demand and supply, Guenther established partnerships with Workforce Solutions Alamo and local education and training institutions, and provided in-house computer software training for all employees. Workforce Solutions Alamo nominated the company for the award, presented in Houston at the Nov. 2-4 conference.

Foley’s La Cantera was in need of more than 200 employees to service the newest retail location at La Cantera. Workforce Solutions Alamo staff and Foley’s hiring executives developed a workshop specific to Foley’s goals, mission, and hiring requirements that were held at various Workforce Solutions Alamo Career Center locations. Potential applicants were matched and screened through the WorkInTexas system and those that qualified were invited to attend the workshops. Upon completion of the workshop, applications were accepted for available positions. Interviews followed for the next three weeks in the courtesy employer interview rooms available at all Career Centers. As a result, approximately 230 individuals were hired for Foley’s newest location at La Cantera. Company Executives from the corporate headquarters in Denver made several trips to view the successful progress. Workforce Solutions Alamo continues to work with Foley’s to continue serving their employee needs.
